Walking through the leaves, stopping to observe the forest, then returning to the warmth of your cabin… What if your autumn break looked just like that? A few days to change your pace, share moments together, and enjoy the season without filling every minute of your schedule. At Cabanes Nids des Vosges, in Champdray, about 20 minutes from Gérardmer, we welcome you all year round for a getaway in the trees. Whether as a couple or with the family, here are our ideas for planning your autumn break, from walks and gourmet discoveries to cozy evenings indoors.

Why head to the Vosges for the autumn break?

Autumn gives the Vosges mountains a whole new look. The deciduous trees are dressed in shades of gold and copper, the forest floor takes on a new atmosphere, and the crisp air invites you to alternate between outdoor excursions and comforting breaks. It’s a season to be savored just as much outside on the forest paths as it is inside over a good meal.

For your autumn holiday in the Vosges, there is no need to choose between exploration and relaxation. Plan a morning walk, a gourmet stop in the afternoon, and leave yourself time to enjoy your accommodation.

With the kids, turn your walk into an observation game: find a leaf of every color, listen to the sounds of the forest, and spot the different shapes of the trees. As a couple, leave your watch behind. A book, a hot drink, and a view of the branches are all you need to spend a few pleasant hours.

Sleeping in a treehouse near Gérardmer

The pleasure of an unusual stay, with a heated cabin

Sleeping up in the trees in autumn doesn't mean sacrificing comfort. Our cabins are equipped with heating, so you can return to a cozy interior after a day outdoors. The forest is still right there, but the evening can continue in warmth, playing a board game or sharing a bedtime story.

Our Cosy and Deluxe cabins are perfect for a getaway as a couple or with the family, with capacities of up to 7 people depending on the accommodation. Before booking, take the time to compare the sleeping arrangements, access, and amenities: your cabin is a key part of the experience.

A Nordic bath or sauna to extend your relaxation

For a spa getaway in the Vosges, some of our cabins feature a heated Nordic bath on their terrace. The Bien-Hêtre cabin, meanwhile, includes a private panoramic sauna. It’s up to you to choose the atmosphere that suits you best to enjoy the forest in a new way after your walk.

Are you planning a multi-generational holiday? The Villa Forêt & Spa, which can be fully privatized, accommodates up to fifteen people. Its three cabins, common areas, and wellness space allow you to get together while still enjoying some time to yourself.

What to do in the Vosges during the autumn break?

Walking in the forest right from your cabin

The best part of your stay is being able to head out on foot. Marked hiking trails are accessible directly from the estate, including a treasure hunt for families. It’s a great way to turn a walk into a little adventure without having to start your day with a car ride. Guided mountain walks are also available by reservation, allowing you to explore the Champdray plateau and the Vosges forest.

Our tip: choose an outing that fits your mood for the day rather than focusing on a specific goal. A short walk filled with breaks can create just as many memories as a long hike.

Discovering Gérardmer with the kids

For a change of scenery, head to Gérardmer. A stroll along the lake is a wonderful way to get some fresh air before heading into town.

To keep little hikers motivated, the Tourist Office offers Randoland scavenger hunt walks, with activity sheets tailored to different age groups. Observing, searching for clues, and solving riddles: a great idea for a family weekend in the Vosges, where you can choose the route based on the children's ages and the weather.

Enjoy a gourmet break at the Confiserie des Hautes Vosges

In Plainfaing, the Confiserie des Hautes Vosges invites you to discover how its candies are made during guided, narrated tours, complete with tastings. Keep this outing in mind to mix up your activities, especially when the weather makes you want to stay indoors.

Tours are available year-round from Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays. Remember to check the schedule before you head out: the shop being open does not necessarily mean the workshops are open for tours, especially on Sundays.

Make the most of doing nothing at all

A successful getaway is one you don't return from feeling exhausted. Between outings, keep a morning free of plans or dedicate an entire late afternoon to your cabin.

For stays in Cosy and Deluxe cabins, breakfast is included and delivered to your doorstep. Fresh bread, pastries, jams, and hot drinks: everything you need to start your day at a leisurely pace without having to rush off.

In the evening, our dinner baskets prepared by our partner caterer allow you to stay in your nest. Delivered cold to the base of your cabin, they can be hoisted up with the pulley and then warmed up before you sit down to eat. Remember to order them at least two days before your arrival. All that's left to decide is who gets to pull the basket up!

To add a moment of relaxation, massages performed directly in your cabin by our partner are also available by prior reservation. Another way to enjoy your stay without having to travel around.

How to best prepare for your All Saints' holiday?

Choose your dates and your cabin

In 2026, the All Saints' school holidays run from Saturday, October 17th after school until Monday morning, November 2nd, for zones A, B, and C, as well as Corsica. For children who do not have classes on Saturdays, the break begins on Friday after school.

Start by choosing your dates, then the accommodation that suits your group: number of beds, layout, and whether you want a Nordic bath or sauna. To enjoy the estate without rushing, plan to keep at least half a day free of outings.

Packing for the outdoors… and the indoors

Pack walking shoes, a waterproof jacket, and several layers of clothing. Don't forget comfortable loungewear for the evenings and your swimsuit if your chosen accommodation has a wellness area.

A deck of cards and a few books are easy additions to your itinerary. Before heading out, check the weather and local information, adjust your route, and plan to return before dark.

Keep your schedule flexible

Rather than planning an activity for every time slot, pick one walk, one culinary discovery, and one indoor option. Book the experiences you really want in advance, then let the rest of your stay unfold based on how you feel.

The goal isn't to see everything in a few days, but to find your own pace.

Your next All Saints' holiday is waiting in the trees

A walk that stretches on, a basket pulled up to your terrace, an evening spent talking instead of watching the clock… These are the kinds of memories you’ll want to bring home from your vacation.

For your All Saints' getaway in the Vosges, choose your cabin and imagine the rest: a romantic escape, a family adventure, or simply a few days to reconnect with yourself.
